Westpac Consumer Sentiment is released by Westpac Banking Corporation and it represents a level of a diffusion index based on surveyed customers.
About 1200 respondents are being asked to rate the relative level of past and future economic conditions, employment and climate for major purchases. While this is a second tier data, if the actual differs most from the forecast important volatility levels may arise.
The most important things to take into consideration when looking at the Westpac Consumer Sentiment are:
- release date: monthly, around the middle of the current month;
- release time: 00:30 GMT during the Asian trading session.
- second tier data;
- actual > forecast = positive for currency;
- actual < forecast = negative for currency.
